Part-Time Chinese Language Visiting Faculty

Applications are invited for a part-time visiting position in Chinese language from February through May 2022. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications, the appointment will be made at the level of either visiting assistant professor or visiting lecturer. Minimum requirements include MA in Chinese language pedagogy, linguistics, literature, or a related field. Candidates should have native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin, strong teaching experience at the college level, and the ability to teach intermediate- or advanced-level language courses in coordination with departmental colleagues. Some experience in team-teaching and teacher training preferred. The teaching load will consist of two courses during the term.

Applications should include a cover letter (please include a statement on how your teaching will serve a diverse student population), CV, names and contact information of two references, a 15-minute high-resolution video recording of the applicant teaching an actual class, accompanied by a detailed lesson plan. If a teaching video is not available, please provide a lesson plan that shows how the applicant would teach Chinese as a foreign language in a course aimed at helping students develop communicative competence, together with a five-minute audio recording (saved as mp3 file) with self-introduction and teaching philosophy in both Mandarin and English. Please indicate the links to the audio and video recordings in a word document and upload all application materials to Interfolio.
